In our practice we go at the speed of trust

FAQs

  • During your 15-minute virtual consultation, you may:

    • Share what brings you to therapy as well as your needs and goals

    • Ask questions about your therapist's therapeutic approach and experience

    • Discuss fees, scheduling, and policies

    • Get a sense of your therapist to see if you feel like it's a fit

    • Learn about next steps if you decide to move forward

  • The first thing to assess is whether our expertise, training, approach, cost, and schedule match what you are looking for. The second part is to assess the “goodness of fit”. Lots of people talk about a “gut feeling” for this part of the assessment and practically this looks like whether or not you feel comfort and connection—feeling safe, respected, heard, and able to open up. If those two things are a go, then likely the fit will be a good one. If at any point it doesn’t feel like a good fit, it’s totally appropriate to talk about it with your therapist and we will work to provide referrals.

  • We “go at the speed of trust.” What we mean by this is that we respect your timing. Developing trust in a provider takes time, developing trust in yourself takes time, developing trust in the process takes time. We deeply respect your timing and will offer compassion and curiosity to support you in your unique unfolding.

Practically, the first session looks like:

    • Learning more about your therapist and deepening your understanding of their expertise

    • Talking about what brought you to therapy and what you hope to do during our time together

    • Collaborating with your therapist around what therapy will look like for you and how you like to be supported and feel safe

    • Discussing internal and external resources for support—before, during, after your therapy session

    • Designing a rhythm and frequency of sessions that feels right

    • Setting initial goals and discussing what progress might look like

  • You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
